Gardaí had to restore order in the Central Criminal Court after an unruly, triumphalist demonstration by friends and relatives of a Dublin father who was acquitted of raping and sexually assaulting his daughter.

Relatives and supporters of the 39-year-old accused man shouted and applauded after the court registrar noted the final 39th "not guilty" verdict against him and were ordered by gardaí to stop or leave.
