Gormley announces new rules on export of recyclables
Minister for Environment John Gormley has announced new measures controlling the export of waste for recycling.
The new regulations will set up a registration system for dealers involved in exporting waste to other countries.
It is thought that 83% of recyclable material collected in Ireland is currently exported, including all cardboard, paper and plastic.
The new rules are designed to prevent illegal activity and to ensure that waste is moved without harm to the environment.
