Harney: External inquiry may be needed in kidney case
Minister for Health and Children Mary Harney has today admitted that an external inquiry may be required to investigate the circumstances surrounding a surgical procedure at Our Lady's Hospital Crumlin, in which a child had a healthy kidney removed by mistake.
The young child now faces regular dialysis unless a donor kidney can be found.
Speaking at the opening of the New Education and Research Centre of Our Lady's Hospice at Harold's Cross, Harney expressed her sympathy to the family of the child, describing the case as "regrettable".
