Ireland ranked among EU top-10 for road safety

Ireland has been ranked among the top-10 best-performing EU countries in terms of road safety.

Provisional figures released today by the European Transport Safety Council show that Ireland is now ranked 9th out of 25 EU member states.

Reacting to the figures, Transport Minister Noel Dempsey said much has been achieved in terms of reducing deaths on Irish roads.

However, he said the authorities could not afford to become complacent.
