Teen charged with Polish murder remanded in custody

A 17-year-old boy charged with the murder of a Polish man in Drimnagh, in Dublin in February, has been further remanded in custody by the Children’s Court pending the preparation of the book of evidence in the case.

The teenage boy, who cannot be named because he is a juvenile, had been charged last month with the murder of Pawel Kalite on Benbulben Road, Drimnagh, on Saturday, February 23 last.

At the Children’s Court today Judge Patrick Clyne agreed to a request from the State to grant a further two-week remand for the service of the book of evidence in the case.

The boy, who is from the south-east inner city area of Dublin, had been remanded in custody on March 15 last to St Patrick’s Institution but later was granted High Court bail which he is yet to take up.

Judge Clyne remanded the teenager, in custody for another two weeks with consent to High Court bail.

The boy remained silent during the brief proceedings at which his parents were also present.

Earlier in the proceedings, Detective Garda Eamon Maloney had said he arrested the defendant at 10.24pm on March 14 last at Crumlin Garda station, in the presence of his father.

Det Maloney had said that when the boy was cautioned, he was invited to make a reply, to which he answered “no”.
