Industrial unrest at Aer Lingus has been averted for a fortnight to allow ground staff to hold a fresh ballot on controversial cost cuts being sought by the airline.

The 1,800 ground staff recently voted by a large majority to reject new work practices negotiated by SIPTU as part of moves by Aer Lingus to save €20m in annual costs.
