Minister for Enterprise Michael Martin says state agencies will do all in their power to save the 400 jobs hanging in the balance at the Iralco plant in Co Westmeath.

Staff at the Collinstown factory were told yesterday that the company had gone into liquidation due to financial difficulties.

Two liquidators are meeting with management and unions this afternoon to try and see if any jobs can be saved.

Calls have also been made for the establishment of a special taskforce to find new jobs for the workers.
