Three gardaí injured after van crashes through checkpoint

Three gardaí have been injured after a van was involved in a crash with two patrol cars in Galway in the early hours of today.

The crash happened on the Headford Road after gardaí were involved in a low speed chase with the van which went through a checkpoint near Salthill.

One man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and appeared before a special sitting of Galway District Court this afternoon.

He was remanded on bail to appear again before the court later in the month.

The three gardaí suffered minor injuries.

Two of them were later discharged from hospital, while a third member of the force is still being treated for minor injuries.
