File sent to PPS over murder of schoolgirl in 1981

Police in the North have sent a file to the Public Prosecution Service in connection with their hunt for the murderer of a schoolgirl 27 years ago.

The file relates to convicted Scottish child killer Robert Black, who was questioned three years ago about the murder of Jennifer Cardy.

The nine-year-old was abducted while cycling to a friend's house near her home in Ballinderry, Co Antrim, in 1981.

Her body was found six days later by fishermen at a dam off the main Belfast to Dublin road near Hillsborough, Co Down.

Black was jailed in England in 1994 for the murder of three young girls between 1982 and 1986.
