Ahern: Mahon Tribunal was 'key' in resignation decision

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has signalled the Mahon Tribunal was a key factor in his decision to step aside as he considered its impact on his legacy while going over diaries of his political lifetime.

He said if he stayed on as Taoiseach he would have been in and out of the hearings going over “old nonsense” about his financial transactions.
