Cowen blamed for rise in unemployment

Minister for Finance Brian Cowen today faced severe criticism as he prepares to take over as Taoiseach, with figures revealing the worst unemployment since June 1999.

The number of people signing on last month increased by 12,000 pushing the rate of those seeking benefits up to 5.5% – the highest for almost a decade.
