In his homily for the Divine Mercy Sunday Mass at the Knock Shrine, the Cardinal also attacked what he said was a relentless pursuit of the vulnerabilities of celebrities and public figures, for entertainment rather than for legitimate public interest.

The Cardinal said confession has become all but a forgotten sacrament for a significant number of people and there is a spiritual crisis in our society.
