Enterprise Minister to establish advisory group on media mergers
The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Micheál Martin is to establish an advisory group on media mergers.
The group, to be chaired by Senior Counsel Paul Sreenan, will review the current legislation on the public interest aspects of such mergers.
It comes in a week when Independent News and Media declared Denis O'Brien a dissident shareholder.
The billionaire businessman is thought to be planning a takeover of the group.
He owns over 22% of the company, the second biggest shareholder after the O'Reilly family.
