The N6 at Kilrickil in Galway reopened this afternoon following yesterday's crash which claimed the lives of two teenage girls and injured several others.

The N6 at Kilrickil in Galway reopened this afternoon following yesterday's crash which claimed the lives of two teenage girls and injured several others.

The single vehicle crash happened shortly after 2.30pm yesterday afternoon when the car collided with a traffic island and then hit a pole.

The girls were part of a group of thirty people who were travelling to Connemara for an outdoor pursuits course organised by the Islamic Cultural Centre in Dublin.

A 13 and a 14-year-old girl were killed in the crash and five others were taken to Portiuncula hospital in Ballinasloe and University Hospital Galway.

Two remained in a critical condition this afternoon.
