Arson attack leaves 13 homeless in Derry

Thirteen people have been left homeless in an overnight fire which gutted three houses.

The incident happened at around 3.25am in the Anderson Park area of Limavady and detectives are treating it as arson.

A Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) spokeswoman said three homes were gutted and a further two damaged.

It is understood nobody was injured.

SDLP East Derry MLA John Dallat urged people to come forward with information and condemned the incident.

“I visited the area this morning and I was totally shocked at what I saw,” he said.

“These people have been burned out of their homes.

“I totally condemn this reckless and deplorable act.

“Thirteen people have been left without a home and have lost all their possessions.

“We have now seen more than 20 similar attacks in Limavady in the past few months.

“If this continues it will only be a matter of time before someone loses their life. It is miracle nobody has been killed so far,” he said.

The PSNI is appealing for anyone with information to contact Limavady police station.
