Record companies launch court action against eircom

Four record companies have initiated High Court action to try and force eircom to take steps to stop its networks being used for the illegal downloading of music.

It is the first case of its kind here aimed at internet service providers instead rather than individual illegal downloaders.

The proceedings are being taken by EMI records, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Universal Music Limited and Warner Music.
