Fisherman airlifted from vessel off north-west coast

A Russian fisherman has been airlifted from a vessel off the north-west coast after suffering an apparent heart attack.

The Sligo Coastguard helicopter was sent to help the man at around 2am this morning.

He was winched from his vessel around 140 miles off the Mayo coast and brought to Sligo General Hospital for treatment.

The operation, which was co-ordinated by Malin Head Coastguard and Clyde Coastguard in the UK, took just over two hours.
