Controllers threaten all-out strike at airports

Air traffic controllers are threatening all-out strike action at airports around the country if the current dispute over staff shortages is not resolved.

Talks aimed at ending the stand-off are taking place at the Labour Relations Commission today and the controllers have agreed to work as normal at Cork Airport to facilitate the negotiations.

The move has averted the threat of more flight disruption in Cork today.

IMPACT says the Irish Aviation Authority has failed to hire new staff since 2001 and the current reliance on overtime is unsustainable in the long term.
