A Chinese national spent half an hour in the Royal Canal on a freezing winter night after being pushed down a steep incline into the water by three teenage thugs who had attempted to rob him.

A Chinese national spent half an hour in the Royal Canal on a freezing winter night after being pushed down a steep incline into the water by three teenage thugs who had attempted to rob him.

Thomas Jervis (19) and cousins Brian (20) and Stephen Maughan (18) then robbed a German tourist of his wallet and mobile phone after threatening him with a corkscrew some 500 metres further along the canal.
