Experts to discuss growth in foreign adoptions

International experts will today discuss growing number of foreign children being adopted from overseas.

Since 1991 approximately 4,500 children have been adopted into Ireland from abroad.

The conference, organised by Trinity College Dublin and the Adoption Board, aims to highlight the implications for research, policy and practice including legislative challenges to deal with the growing phenomenon.

Academics at Trinity’s Children’s Research Centre published a study last year on the Irish experience of intercountry adoption.

A number of eminent speakers will address the issue and discuss the Irish situation.

The conference, The Irish Study of Intercountry Adoption Outcomes (2007) in an international context, is being held at Dublin Castle.
