Teen dies following crash at pier
A teenage driver died after his car hit a pier in Co Louth and landed on its roof, police said today.
The 17-year-old's vehicle collided with the quay and rolled over at Stameen, Drogheda, last night at around 10pm.
Meanwhile, shortly before 8pm a man aged in his 50's was killed when the car he was driving crashed into a tree in Santry, Dublin.
Gardaí are also investigating a separate fatal road traffic collision that happened at 8.20 this morning on the main N9 road at Gorteen, Vacan, Castledermot, Co. Kildare.
A man was killed when the car he was driving crossed over to the other side of the road and hit an oncoming vehicle. He was 29 and was the sole occupant of his car. The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries.
His body was removed to the Naas General Hospital.
There have been separate reports that a male driver was killed this morning in a road traffic accident about two miles outside Carlow on the Dublin road.
There were two cars involved in the accident, which happened at around 8.20am.
The driver of the second vehicle was taken to hospital and was not seriously injured. The road is open to traffic.
