IMO to meet with talks chairman again next week

The Irish Medical Organisation will meet with consultant talks chairman Mark Connaughton again next week.

The union met with Mr. Connaughton today to discuss the deal struck between the IHCA and the HSE last night.

The Irish Medical Organisation walked out of contract talks with the Irish Hospital Consultants Association and HSE employers last Tuesday.

However, the IHCA and Health bosses managed to strike a deal on the new contracts last night after two days of marathon negotiations.

The new deal will see consultants working longer hours, however doctors working exclusively in public hospitals will be rewarded with a €240,000 a-year pay packet.

The IMO decided to go back into discussions today and met with talks chairman Mark Connaughton for over two and a half hours.

In a statement issued this evening the union says a comprehensive range of issues were discussed.

The talks have been adjourned but are set to resume again next week.
