Sinn Féin councillor confronted by loyalist mob in Derry

Police in the North have had to intervene to protect a Sinn Féin councillor from a crowd of loyalist protestors in Co Derry.

The incident happened last night after councillors in Limavady narrowly defeated a Sinn Féin bid to remove unionist regalia from the council offices.

As they left the building, Sinn Féin's Anne Brolly and a colleague were confronted by around 50 protestors who spat on the pair and made obscene and threatening comments.

A union flag was also thrown over their car and the PSNI was called to restore calm.
