Green councillor urges 'No' vote on EU Reform Treaty
A Green party Councillor has become the party's first elected official to publicly urge members to vote "No" at today's convention on the EU Reform Treaty.
Bronwen Maher has declared that she is voting against the treaty because she believes it obliges Ireland to build up its military capabilities and consolidate the European Defence Agency.
Councillor Maher is going against the party's leadership which is urging members to vote "Yes" in agreement with the Government.
Councillor Maher said it was up to the party faithful to decide the policy, and not its ministers.
