The Minister for Communications Eamon Ryan has pledged to incorporate new EU-wide broadcasting rules into the upcoming Broadcasting Bill.

The European directive includes a code of conduct for junk food advertising in children's programmes, as well as new regulations about the amount of time which can be given over to advertising.
