Motorists are being advised to drive with care this morning following severe overnight gales.

AA Roadwatch is warning of fallen debris, branches, surface water and minor flooding on roads throughout the country.

Winds of up to 120km/h battered the country last night, with parts of Connacht and north Leinster worst affected.

Conditions at sea are also said to be rough.

Met Éireann says the severe gales have died down this morning, but winds will remain strong throughout today, accompanied by heavy showers, hail and thunder in some places.
