Boy, 16, caught with stolen laptop and credit card

A 16-year-old boy charged with possessing a stolen laptop computer and credit card has been released on bail by the Dublin Children’s Court.

Garda Mark O’Donovan told Judge Gerard Haughton that he arrested the boy, who is originally from Romania, on Dublin’s Suffolk Street for handling a stolen Toshiba laptop worth €1,500.

The boy was taken to Pearse Street Garda station where he was charged in the presence of his father.

A bench warrant that had been issued of his arrest for failing to attend a previous court case was discovered when he was at the garda station.

The boy is also facing a charge for handling a stolen AIB Visa card, on November 16 last at St Stephen’s Green, in Dublin.

Garda O’Donovan said there was no objection to the boy, who was accompanied to court by his parents, being granted bail.

Defence solicitor Sarah Molloy applied for legal aid saying the boy was not in receipt of any income and hoped to commence a FÁS training course later this month.

Judge Haughton granted legal aid and remanded the boy, who resides in north Dublin, to appear again later this month. A plea is to be entered then.
