Couple tied up in armed robbery

A couple were tied up during a knife point robbery at their home in Athlone, the Gardaí revealed today.

The 20-year-old man and a female in her late teens were injured during the attack at Roslevin Lawns shortly before 12.30am.

It is understood they were taken by ambulance to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe where they were treated for minor injuries.

Two males in their teens were later arrested in connection with the aggravated burglary.

“They are detained at Athlone Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act,” said a garda spokesman.

A small amount of property was stolen during the incident, which gardai at Athlone Garda Station are investigating.

Forensic officers are due to examine the property.
