Pensioner fighting for his life after being knocked down

An elderly man is fighting for his life in hospital after he was knocked down by a car in County Mayo last night.

The man in his 80s was cycling down Castlebar Street in Westport when he was hit at around 8pm.

He was rushed to Castlebar General Hospital, where he is now in a critical condition.

Gardaí at Westport are appealing for witnesses to the crash to contact them.
