A 29-year-old man remains in Garda custody in connection with a serious assault in Dublin.

A teenager was badly injured in the attack, which happened in the city centre in the early hours of yesterday.

The 17-year-old victim of assault remains in a critical condition at Beaumont Hospital this morning.

He was found by gardaí in a collapsed state on Middle Abbey Street in the north inner city at around half-two yesterday morning.

It's believed he had been involved in a street-fight with a number of other men.

The 29-year-old man will be questioned again at Store Street garda station this morning.

He is being held under section four of the Criminal Justice Act.
