Thieves take joyride in Garda car

Two thieves broke into a mechanic’s garage and went on a joyride in a garda squad car that had been booked in for a service, it emerged today.

The incident happened in the Ballysimon Road in Limerick City at around 8.45pm yesterday.

The car was later found a short distance away in O’Malley Park in the Southill area with its windows smashed.

A garda spokesman said: “There were at least two people involved.

“We’re looking at CCTV in the garage and we’re following a definite line of inquiry,” he said.
