DIT mounts renewed bid to gain university status

The Dublin Institute of Technology has reportedly made a renewed bid to be certified as a university.

The college's application for university status was rejected 10 years ago.

However, reports this morning say it has mounted a new bid and the application is being considered by the Department of Education.

In four years, DIT is expected to have more than 23,000 students, which would make it the largest third-level institution in the country.
