The Department of Transport has issued a warning to members of the public that very high seas and gale force winds are forecast for Irish Coastal Waters particularly on the southwest.

Wave heights of more that 10 metres and storm force winds are forecast for southwest and western coasts.

The public is advised not to go out on exposed coasts, cliffs, piers, harbour walls, beaches, promenades or any other coastal areas. The combination of tides, the forecasted gale warning and high seas conditions and swollen rivers may result in very dangerous conditions on the coast.

The Irish Coast Guard has urged the public to be cautious, to heed warnings and to be very careful.
