Man escapes Galway pier car plunge
Two eastern European men have died after the car they were travelling in drove off a pier and into the sea in Co Galway last night.
Three men in their 30s were in the vehicle when it plunged off Rossaveal Pier at around 10pm.
One of the men managed to escape through the sunroof and is being treated for shock, but the driver and front-seat passenger drowned in the incident.
The victims were from Lithuania and Latvia and had been working as fishermen in Rossaveal for the past few months.
They are understood to have been driving on the pier in a recently purchased second-hand car when it drove over a six-inch barrier and into the sea.
