External expert to probe HSE handling of cancer scandal

The Health Service Executive has promised to appoint an independent expert to review how the organisation handled the Portlaoise cancer scandal.

The HSE has come in for widespread criticism over the matter, particularly the way in which some potential misdiagnoses were made public before the affected women were even informed.
