Post mortems held on drowned brothers
Post mortem examinations will be carried out today on the bodies of two brothers who drowned in the River Shannon.
Gardaí in Co Westmeath, who are investigating all circumstances surrounding the drowning, are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
The body of a 41-year-old man was taken from the water in Athlone at around midday on Saturday.
The remains of his 39-year-old brother were recovered by members of a local driving club during a training exercise near Athlone Castle yesterday morning.
The victims were taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar where the post mortems will be performed.
