The Irish Countrywoman's Association has today offered a free counselling service to women affected by the latest cancer scandal in Portlaoise.

The Laois Federation of the ICA is holding a meeting on the matter today.

More than 80 women attended a private clinic in the town yesterday to have ultrasound scans re-examined.

They were amongst 97 women recalled for more tests because of concerns that they were mistakenly given the cancer all-clear by the Midlands Regional Hospital.
