There is an outbreak of the winter vomiting virus at Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital, health chiefs warned today.

Members of the public have been urged not to visit the site outside of normal visiting hours of 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm, which are being rigorously enforced.

Adults are also warned that in a bid to contain the bug, children are not being allowed to visit the wards.

However, outpatient services are not affected by the restrictions.

“Members of the public are urged not to visit the hospital wards or the emergency department at the present time unless their visit is really essential,” said a hospital spokesman.

Beaumont said it regrets the inconvenience to patients and their friends and relatives.
