Gilmore hails Rudd’s Labour victory in Australia

Labour leader Eamon Gilmore has congratulated Kevin Rudd on his victory in the Australian General Election.

The leader of the Australian Labour party ousted Conservative John Howard, ending his eleven-year reign as Prime Minister there.

Eamon Gilmore says it was a spectacular victory by any standards.

During the campaign, Kevin Rudd promised to pull troops from Iraq and sign up to the Kyoto Protocol on climate change.
