Young Fine Gael has passed an emergency motion at its national conference calling for the resignation of Mary Harney and Professor Brendan Drum.

Young Fine Gael (YFG) has passed an emergency motion at its national conference calling for the resignation of Mary Harney and Professor Brendan Drum.

YFG president Elizabeth Munnelly says the Health Minister and the head of the HSE should step down as a matter of urgency.

She also says the health service has become an ideological ego-trip for the minister.

Ms Harney has already refused to resign and has received the backing of the Taoiseach.

The Dáil is due to debate a motion of no confidence in her stewardship of the Department of Health next week.
