Man to be extradited in connection with London stabbing
The High Court has made an order that a Brazilian man wanted in connection with a fatal stabbing of a pizza chef in London two months ago be extradited to the UK.
The British authorities are seeking the extradition of Fernando Burges Palomeque (aged 28), in connection with the killing of Iranian born Mojtaba Hidari, aged in his mid twenties, at a pizzeria where they both worked at Wandsworth Road, London, on September 24 last.
The UK authorities claim Palomeque, a native of Sao Paulo, attacked Mr Hidari, a chef at the Pizza Go Go pizzeria and Mr Palomeque's superior, following a dispute.
Today at the High Court Mr Justice Michael Peart made an order that the 28-year-old be urrendered to the British authorities.
The Judge said he was satisfied that the individual whose extradition was being sought in the European Arrest Warrant was the person who was before the court. A warrant for his extradition was issued in early October.
Counsel for the State had argued that there was no reason why an order for the Brazilian man's extradition should not be made.
Counsel for the Brazilian man told the court that his client had no issue with the proceedings.
Previously the High Court heard that late last month Mr Palomeque was arrested at a house in Edenderry, Co Offaly, where he had been residing.
Palomeque has been remanded in custody since his arrest.
