FG: More psychologists for schools

Fine Gael is calling on the Government to increase the number of State school psychologists, in line with pre-election commitments.

The party says that many parents are being forced to rely on the Vincent de Paul to get a psychological assessment for their school-going children, with the group now funding at least 20 assessments every week.

According to Education Spokesperson Deputy Brian Hayes, children are unable to access the psychological service, eight years after it has been established.

"Fine Gael will this week raise by way of private members time in the Dáil a specific notion demanding that the Government recruit additional psychologists to the service as they promised before the election, and roll out the service on a national basis."
