A gunman on a bicycle opened fire on a flat in central Dublin, gardaí said today.

Two adults inside the targeted apartment at Liberty House in the city's northside escaped uninjured.

Investigating officers said the suspect arrived at and made his getaway from the scene on a pedal bicycle at around 10pm last night.

It is believed the man was wearing a hooded top at the time.

The area was preserved for forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who saw anything suspicious to get in contact with them.

In a separate incident, a 36-year-old man was arrested after offensive weapons were seized during a raid in Donnybrook.

Customs officials and gardaí swooped on a house after a consignment of 10 stun guns as well as knives and knuckle-dusters were intercepted at Dublin port.

They weapons were being imported from Thailand onboard a cargo ship.

The man, arrested under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, was questioned at Donnybrook Garda Station.
