Gardaí in Cork are investigating an incident in which a 19-year-old woman was held at knifepoint during a car hijacking in Carrigtwohill last night.

The woman was sitting in a car when a young man and woman jumped in after stealing a bottle of whiskey and a knife from the local supermarket.

They forced her to driver to Glanmire and then pushed her from the car.

The woman was uninjured, but is said to have been shaken by her ordeal.

The stolen car later rammed a garda vehicle in Cahir, Co Tipperary, leaving two gardaí needing hospital treatment.

A man and woman were arrested at the scene and are being held this morning at Cahir Garda Station.
