US student allegedly raped at knifepoint in Derry's Bogside

A US student in her late teens has been raped at knifepoint outside a pub in Derry's Bogside area.

The young woman had been socialising with friends at the Bogside Inn on Saturday evening, but went outside the bar briefly, where she was confronted by a man with a knife.

The attacker forced her into a nearby car park, where she was allegedly raped.

The PSNI says the victim was severely traumatised by the attack.

Local Sinn Féin MLA Martina Anderson is urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the police.
