Two released in Dublin murder investigation

Both men arrested in connection with a double murder in south Dublin have been released without charge, gardaí said last night.

A 28-year-old was taken into custody yesterday during raids by officers investigating the shooting dead last month of Eddie Ward and Brian Downes in the Walkinstown area of the city.

A 27-year-old man was also arrested during the swoop, but was later released from Crumlin Garda station without charge shortly after 9pm.

Mr Ward and Mr Downes were attacked on October 5 as they walked along the Greenhills Road.

Up to 10 shots were fired during the incident and the attackers fled on a motorcycle, which was dumped in the Grand Canal near Bluebell.
