Man appears in court on drugs and gun charges

A 28-year-old man appeared in court today charged with possession of drugs, and a firearm at a house in Clondalkin last Friday.

Garda Eric Kelly of the drugs unit of Pearse Street Garda Station, Dublin, told Judge Mary Collins, that Keith Ennis of Oakway, Clondalkin, had in his possession cocaine estimated to be worth €2,000, and was also charged with having it with intent to supply.

Mr Ennis was also charged with possession of a semi-automatic Glock 9 millimetre pistol and ammunition.

Bail was objected to on the grounds of the seriousness of the charges against Mr Ennis, and that more charges would most likely follow.

Barrister Tom Flanagan, instructed by Peter Connolly solicitor, told judge Collins that his client Mr Ennis has a presumption of innocence, that he has been paying a mortgage since August 2006, and that his partner is in the early stages of pregnancy.

Bail was refused however, and Ennis was remanded in custody to appear again at Cloverhill court next Friday.
