Road restrictions in place for Dublin City Marathon

Motorists can expect some serious delays as the competitors in this year's Dublin marathon make their way around the city.

The race starts and finishes around Merrion Square, so the heavy restrictions are in place there.

Restrictions in some areas of Dublin could stretch towards lunchtime today.

Vehicles on the N3 will be diverted away from the North Circular Road, while M1 traffic reaching Dorset Street will be diverted down Gardiner Street

On the Southside, traffic will be diverted at the Merrion Gates

Motorists can also expect severe restrictions in the areas of Phibsboro, Inchicore and Dolphins Barn, and delays on the South Quays at Aston Quay and around Capel Street

Finally, the advice is to avoid the Merrion Square, Nassau Street and Stephen's Green areas entirely for the duration of the marathon
