200 Polish workers loose jobs at ESB plant

Unions and management at Moneypoint power station in Co Clare are meeting today to discuss a dispute involving 200 mainly Polish workers who have lost their jobs at the plant.

The workers were employed by a sub-contractor working for another firm carrying out a refurbishment project at the station.

They say they have not been paid for six weeks and have now lost their jobs following the termination of their employer's contract at Moneypoint.

The workers have voted unanimously in favour of industrial action, while the TEEU has also promised to mount an official picket unless a fair resolution is reached.

It says it will not allow the ESB to wash its hands of the matter by describing it as a dispute between a contractor and a sub-contractor.
