Two arrested after Garda is injured in drugs search

Two men have been arrested following the stabbing of a garda from the Longford-Westmeath drugs unit in Athlone.

It happened when detectives were carrying out a search in the town in the early hours of this morning.

The garda was brought to Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar where was treated for stab wounds.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Both men were arrested at the scene are being questioned by Athlone Gardaí.
